Public Safety Disclaimer
Crime data limitations, emergency guidance, and responsible use of neighborhood safety briefs.
Last updated: June 3, 2026. This is the plain-English safety disclaimer for CrimeAlerts.us. Please read it carefully before relying on any map, alert, score, summary, or report.
Not an emergency service
If there is an emergency, immediate danger, a crime in progress, a threat of violence, a medical emergency, fire, or suspicious activity requiring urgent response, call 911 or the appropriate local authority immediately. CrimeAlerts.us does not monitor emergencies and cannot dispatch help.
Not official police, FBI, or court data
CrimeAlerts.us is not a law-enforcement agency and does not create official police reports, court records, FBI crime rates, or government safety ratings. Reports may include SpotCrime incident data, public-source records, FBI/UCR state context, FBI public notices, maps, geocoding, and AI-assisted summaries, but those are informational layers only.
Data may be wrong, late, incomplete, or missing
Crime data varies dramatically by location and source. Incidents may be delayed, duplicated, misclassified, geocoded to an approximate block or centroid, removed, withheld for privacy, missing sensitive categories, or unavailable because an agency does not publish compatible data. A quiet map does not prove a place is safe. A busy map does not prove a place is unsafe.
ZIP and address caveat
ZIP/ZCTA searches are centered on an approximate ZIP/ZCTA centroid, not a rooftop, parcel, block face, or official FBI ZIP-level crime rate. Address searches depend on geocoding quality and may still be approximate. Distances, pins, and categories are context aids, not precise legal measurements.
No prediction or safety guarantee
CrimeAlerts.us does not predict future crime, certify neighborhood safety, rank people or properties, or guarantee that a reported event did or did not happen. Past reports near a location do not determine what will happen next.
Do not use for regulated or high-stakes decisions
Do not use CrimeAlerts.us as the sole basis for buying, renting, leasing, lending, insuring, hiring, firing, admitting, screening, policing, profiling, or denying services to anyone. It is not a Fair Credit Reporting Act consumer report, tenant-screening report, background check, appraisal, legal opinion, or professional risk assessment.
Responsible use only
Use the site for awareness and follow-up, not for panic, harassment, discrimination, retaliation, trespassing, vigilantism, neighborhood shaming, or accusing specific people. If you have information about a real incident, contact the appropriate authorities through official channels.
Third-party links and alerts
SpotCrime alert signup, third-party maps, public data sources, FBI resources, and other linked services are controlled by their own operators. CrimeAlerts.us is not responsible for their content, availability, policies, emails, data retention, or errors.
Bottom line
CrimeAlerts.us can help you ask better questions about what has been reported nearby. It cannot tell you whether you, your family, a property, a street, or a neighborhood is safe. Use multiple sources, local judgment, official channels, and common sense.
